The TS EN 1751 standard covers the methods for testing and classification of dampers and valves used in air distribution systems with pressure differences up to 2000 Pa.

The tests under the TS EN 1751 standard are as follows:

a) Leakage through the closed damper or valve (for classification, see Annex C),

b) Casing leakage (for classification, see Annex C),

c) Characteristics of flow/pressure requirements,

d) Torque: (see Annex A),

e) Thermal transmittance: (see Annex B).

The sound testing of dampers and valves is beyond the scope of this standard.

The above-mentioned tests are applied as follows:

f) Measurement of leakage through the closed damper or valve,

g) Measurement of casing leakage,

h) Determination of flow and pressure requirements,

i) Measurement of torque characteristics (see Annex A),

j) Measurement of thermal transfer characteristics to determine insulation properties (see Annex B).

The dynamic performance of dampers and valves in certain conditions is dependent on the air distribution system to which they are connected, and therefore, measurements separate from this system are difficult. This assessment has led to the exclusion of dynamic performance measurements from this standard. Furthermore, when dampers or valves are placed in non-uniform flow fields in conjunction with other air distribution components, the results of tests conducted according to this standard may not be directly applicable.
